OHF Booth Duty

Hui Wen:

Helped out in tending the booth at Tiong Bahru Plaza yesterday, 21st December. Me and Zheng Yi took over Tiff and Jolie at 6.30 and tended the booth till 9.

Just by sitting there for 2hrs 30 minutes, we saw different kinds of people and learnt certain things. We didnt have to go stand outside the booth to persuade people to come take a look at the products nor ask them for donations. People who has the heart to do it will come over to us once they see the gigantic stand we have beside the booth. People who just dont bother wouldnt even budge even if you ask them to. So we sat at the booth and watched the different looks that people have when they see the booth and they different reactions they have towards the booth.

We saw people belonging to two extreme ends of human race. There were people who simply walked pass the booth, saw the donation box and threw in 10 or 20 dollars. There were some who stopped at the booth and bought little things to contribute a little to OHF. There was also this man who spent 40 dollars on a purse although he only took at 20 dollars before asking about the price and when told that it was 40, he said "sure, no problem" Such an angel.

However, there were also people who just dont understand the gift of sharing and caring. There was a man who came by the store and asked if there was any cheap gifts becox he needed to give them away as christmas gifts. In the end, he didnt buy anything from the store. Not buying anything from us wasnt the point, I just didnt understand why he wanted to buy a christmas present just for the sake of buying something.

No matter what, our booth raised 167+ dollars from 4 to 9! =)

As Zheng Yi told me, there are people who make 1000+ a month and are willing to donate 40 dollars, but there are also people who make 7000 - 8000 a month but are not willing to donate the money to the needy. Which ones do YOU belong?

HOPE

Hope is a candle in the night
Hope is a long respite

Hope is a feather
Once lifted, it will only get higher

Hope is an oasis in a desert
Hope is a diamond in the dirt

Hope is everywhere
Yet hope is scarcely there

Hope is the dream of better days
Hope is the passion ablaze

Hope is beautiful
And hope is tranquil

Hope is there for everyone
Hope is an asset that all has in abundance
